Day of Cyrus the Great

Program Description

Cyrus the Great Day, on Aban 7 (October 29), is a day in Iran's unofficial and national calendar in honor of Cyrus the Great, the founder and first king of the Achaemenid Empire. Today is celebrated globally.

According to Nabonid's chronicle, on November 7, 539 (BC), Cyrus the Great entered the city-state of Babylon and freed the captive Jews.

The day of Cyrus the Great is not registered in the official calendar, however, different groups of Iranian people want to register this day in the national calendar of Iran, and every year on the seventh day of Aban, they commemorate this day by attending the tomb of Cyrus in Pasargad.

This day is not Cyrus the Great's birthday, but his honor day.
